Here at Main Street Forge we use Chicago screws to secure the buckle. This is a common method for securing belt buckles but it can prove a bit tricky when trying to change out your belt buckle.
We put a dab of glue on the Chicago screws while crafting your Main Street Forge belt. This helps to make sure the original buckle stays put and doesn’t come loose accidentally. Unfortunately, this can make removal of the screws a bit difficult.
In order to remove the screws, you have to be able to break the adhesive seal on the screw. It can be difficult, but if you use a screwdriver on the one side and you grab the other (smooth) side of the screw with a pair of needle nose pliers you can get enough torque. Once the seal is broken, it will unscrew very easily.
Occasionally, this is not enough torque to get the job done. When this is the case, grab a pair of rubber gloves to help grab onto the tiny screws and obtain the necessary torque to loosen the screw.
The trick is to get a good grip on the screw with the pliers without damaging the leather, you have to be careful. If you aren’t able to remove the screws, please contact us and we will help however we can. Check out our FAQ page here for other questions that you may have.
